Terra Kind - Special Education
Terra Kind - Laconia High School Special Education Teacher
I am very excited to be teaching at Laconia High School as a Cross Categorical Teacher. I grew up in this area and graduated from Laconia myself some time ago. It feels great to be back in Spartan Territory working with the students and families of these communities. My husband and I, along with our three children live in the country on the outskirts of the district. We enjoy the outdoors and trying to keep up with our kids’ schedules as they are involved in many activities.
I graduated from UW Oshkosh with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and later earned a Master’s Degree in Reading from UW Oshkosh as well. I put my degrees to good use teaching in the Oakfield School District the past 22 years. Most of my experience was teaching elementary special education but also served as an early childhood teacher and reading specialist along with working with middle schoolers.
I have had many wonderful teachers guide me through my education and instill in me a love of learning and I want to do the same for others. My favorite childhood teacher, Ms. Drews, recently passed away. I had the privilege of attending her celebration of life and serving her family and friends at her memorial luncheon. Ms. Drews’ family talked about her love of teaching and how she always looked for new things to learn and was always teaching others through her adventures and experiences. They asked those at her service to honor her in this way…. “Be kind and learn something new everyday.” I hope to do that!
I have had many great learning opportunities and experiences over the years and will bring all I have learned to help my students find their true potential. Every child can succeed if given a positive learning environment, rigorous academic and behavioral expectations, and a teacher who believes in them. I can’t wait to see our children succeed!
